At Play, we believe the future isn’t just about AI generating code — it’s about designers and product teams having a powerful visual editor and AI working together in one seamless environment. That’s what we’ve been building, and today we’re excited to share the first phase of Play AI.
Play AI isn’t a separate product. It’s built directly into the Play experience, so you can use AI right alongside the robust editor you already know — with all the benefits of native materials, Play’s real-time prototyping engine, and the ability to export to Xcode.
What you can do with Play AI today
With this first release, Play AI introduces several powerful ways to accelerate your workflow:
Prototype with Natural Language: Build sophisticated interactions and animations just by describing them. Tell Play AI, “on tap, trigger a light haptic and open Profile page in a sheet” or “when I scroll, make the CTA visible,” or “make this draggable.” Play AI translates your intent into high-fidelity prototypes immediately.

Create Designs & Apply Effects: Play AI can add components to your page, apply effects like Liquid Glass, or handle repetitive or system-wide changes like, “swap all SF Symbols to non-silver versions.”

Generate with the new AI View: Play’s new AI view instantly create complete app screens, widgets, or components. Ask Play AI to design a background with shifting gradient colors using shaders, create a heart-rate monitoring chart, or even a full onboarding flow — all directly inside your project. This new AI view lets you add vibe coded elements directly into your larger project.

Play’s new AI View is a web-based view for displaying and interacting with AI-generated results created when you use Play’s /generate prompt. When you submit a prompt, Play uses Claude to generate structured outputs that can be modules, pages, or complete multi-screen flows. These results are rendered within the AI View using a web-based preview layer, allowing you to review and experiment with the AI generated content directly on the Play canvas.
In essence, the AI View bridges Play’s integrated design editor with LLM–powered generation, offering a similar experience to “vibe coding” tools like Lovable — but directly within the Play ecosystem.
Only the beginning…
Phase one is only the beginning. Our long-term vision for Play AI is not just about speeding up the product design & development process with natural language commands — it’s about reimagining how AI and human creativity can work together.
In recent months, we’ve seen the rise of vibe coding tools that allow people to quickly generate websites and web apps through natural language prompts. These tools are exciting, but they share some limitations: their core focus is on websites and web apps and once something is generated, it’s often very difficult to refine it through a visual editor. The workflow gets stuck between two extremes: asking AI for changes, updating code, or accepting what it gave you.
We believe the real power of AI comes when it’s paired with a robust visual editor. Imagine using natural language to quickly create screens, flows, and interactions — and then seamlessly switching to Play’s canvas to fine-tune every detail. You can ask AI to add a scroll interaction, add Liquid Glass effects, or generate a complete onboarding flow, and then immediately refine the typography, spacing, or interactions with precision.
This balance of speed and control is what will define the future of design in Play. AI accelerates the blank-canvas moment, helps you explore more possibilities, and reduces the time spent on repetitive tasks. The visual editor ensures that every design can still meet the highest standards of craft, fidelity, and polish.
What's next
This is only the first phase of our AI journey, but it represents a huge step forward in how designers, product teams, and solo builders can bring ideas to life.
Our vision is clear: Play AI will empower teams to design faster without sacrificing quality, combining the best of natural language generation with the most capable native design editor for mobile. It’s not AI versus design tools — it’s AI inside the design tool, working in harmony with the creative process.
